An international award recognising Portsmouth Music Service's environmental excellence

Portsmouth Music Service has been recognised for its outstanding environmental achievement in the 2026 International Green Apple Environment Awards with its 'Ticking Clock Initiative' involving hundreds of children and young people from Portsmouth.

Selected from more than 700 entries worldwide, Portsmouth Music Service has been recognised among this year's leading examples of environmental best practice and will be celebrated at a prestigious awards ceremony in the House of Lords, Palace of Westminster, London. 

The Green Apple Awards recognise organisations that are making a significant contribution to environmental improvement through innovation, commitment and measurable action, which places Portsmouth Music Service among the top organisations in the UK, demonstrating leadership in environmental sustainability and raising awareness of the need for each of us to take action to improve the environmental future for our young people and generations to come.

The Ticking Clock is a dynamic music initiative building on the Music Service's ongoing drive to raise awareness of environmental concerns through music and the arts. It engages children and young people in serious conversations about climate change, sustainability, and protecting the planet through creative activity giving them a creative platform to express and share their concerns.

The initiative was jointly funded by Portsmouth Music Service and Arts Council England as part of the South Coast Music Partnership. 

Alongside Chris Packham's 'The People's Emergency Briefing', this is the response and message created, shaped and shared by Portsmouth's young people, enabling others to understand the impact of climate change on everyone's future and the urgent need for carbon reduction.
