School Services
Portsmouth Music Service offers a wide range of high-quality music education services through the Service Level Agreement, including curriculum and PPA teaching, instrumental and vocal tuition, whole-class instrumental programmes, workshops, clubs, and performance opportunities. Our provision supports schools in delivering engaging, inclusive music education while helping pupils develop musical skills, creativity, confidence, and a lifelong enjoyment of music.
Whole Class Instrumental Teaching
An engaging and inclusive programme for Key Stage 2 pupils, delivered by specialist instrumental teachers. Ideal as a first introduction to instrumental learning for Years 3 and 4, and as a progression opportunity for Years 5 and 6, pupils develop skills in rhythm, melody, notation, listening, and ensemble performance through practical music-making. The programme builds musical confidence, supports curriculum learning, and provides a strong foundation for continued instrumental study.
Ready 4 Music
Ready 4 Music is Portsmouth Music Hub's whole-class instrumental and vocal programme for Year 4 pupils. Portsmouth Music Service is proud to have been commissioned by Portsmouth Music Hub to deliver this programme across the city, providing weekly music lessons led by specialist teachers. Designed to give every child the opportunity to learn, perform, and succeed through music, all participating schools are offered one fully funded term of instrumental teaching.
Instrumental and Vocal Teaching
High-quality instrumental and vocal tuition for individuals, small groups, and larger ensembles. Our specialist teachers inspire musical progress, build confidence, and nurture a lifelong love of music through engaging, personalised learning experiences tailored to each student's needs and aspirations.
Music Curriculum Teaching
High-quality curriculum teaching for Early Years through to Key Stage 3, supporting schools to deliver a broad and balanced music education. Our experienced teachers provide creative, inclusive lessons aligned to the National Curriculum, helping schools strengthen and enhance their music provision.
Portsmouth Music Programme
Our nationally recognised programme brings music to life through dynamic workshops, curriculum projects, and live performance opportunities. Designed to complement classroom learning, these inspiring experiences support creativity, cultural enrichment, and musical participation for all pupils across KS1 and KS2. Workshops range from African Drumming and Boomwhackers, to Mini Steel Pans and Music and ICT.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
We offer a range of CPD opportunities to support schools in developing high-quality music provision. Available through the Service Level Agreement, our programme includes training, workshops, and specialist support designed to build confidence, knowledge, and musical expertise across school staff. In addition, a variety of free CPD opportunities are offered throughout the academic year, helping teachers stay informed, inspired, and equipped to deliver excellent music education.
Extra-Curricular Music Clubs
A wide range of clubs designed to extend musical opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether it's choir, ukulele club, rock band, recorder group, percussion ensemble, or a bespoke school-led project, our clubs develop skills, confidence, teamwork, and enjoyment of music.

Music Centre Lessons

Instrument Hire
Portsmouth Music Service offers an affordable instrument hire scheme to support children and young people learning music, with hire fees starting from £45 per academic year. A wide range of instruments is available for pupils living or studying in Portsmouth, subject to availability.
We also offer class sets of instruments for schools, helping to support curriculum delivery and whole-class instrumental programmes. Schools interested in hiring class sets should contact us directly for current availability and pricing.
Large-Scale Events and Performance Opportunities
Portsmouth Music Service delivers a vibrant programme of large-scale concerts, festivals, showcases, and massed choir events throughout the year. Working with a network of local, regional, and national partners, including Portsmouth Music Hub, we provide exciting opportunities for children and young people to perform alongside their peers in prestigious venues, celebrating musical achievement and inspiring a lifelong love of music.
